Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rain: Intense Showers Expected in the Next Few Hours

Mumbai has been experiencing intermittent rainfall since early this morning, marking the return of heavy showers after a brief two-day respite. The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting moderate to heavy rainfall in the city over the next three to four hours.

Early Morning Downpour

Rainfall has been persistent in Mumbai and its surrounding areas since dawn. As of 5:30 am, the city recorded 51.8 mm of rain, while the suburbs received 27 mm. The intensity of the rain has increased in the past hour, especially in the suburbs of Borivali, Dahisar, Vile Parle, Goregaon, Khar, and Bandra. Similarly, heavy rainfall has been reported in key city areas such as Malabar Hill, Churchgate, Colaba, and Nariman Point.

Forecast for the Coming Hours

The Meteorological Department has confirmed that the rain will continue in Mumbai for the next three to four hours, with expectations of moderate to heavy showers. Residents are advised to stay indoors if possible and take necessary precautions against potential flooding and traffic disruptions.

Statewide Rain Predictions

The weather forecast extends beyond Mumbai, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected over the Konkan region and the Ghats. The monsoon low-pressure area remains active, extending from the southern region to the West Bay of Bengal. Additionally, a parallel low-pressure area from the Gujarat coast to North Kerala is contributing to the likelihood of heavy rain in various parts of the state for the next two to three days.

Mumbai's residents should prepare for continued rainfall throughout the day, with significant downpours expected in the next few hours. The city and surrounding regions are on alert, and the Meteorological Department's warnings highlight the importance of staying informed and taking safety measures during this period of intense weather activity.
